Rock Hill Schools successfully completed another exciting year working with parents, teachers, and principals to realize our belief that all children can learn at high levels and graduate prepared for college and/or career opportunities. This included continued growth and interest in student participation of our Choice programs, breaking ground for construction of the district’s first full dual language immersion elementary school, implementing a new dual credit program in conjunction with York Technical College, and Rock Hill Schools being named a “Top 10 Digital District” by the Center for Digital Education. Ms. Susan Snyder, teacher at Northwestern High School, was recognized as a finalist for “SC Teacher of the Year”, and Dr. Bill Cook was chosen to serve as the new Superintendent of Rock Hill Schools. Existing facilities were modernized and expanded while construction of additional school buildings continued. The school district remains a member of the League of Innovative Schools and continues to expand its vision and professional development for the modern learning environment. In addition, the district continued to expand stakeholder communication by focusing on stories of students, faculty, and staff as well as broaden application its digital communication tools.
Our students demonstrated success in academics, athletics and the arts. Twenty-nine students received a Platinum WIN Ready to Work certificate, the highest level possible on this assessment. Five students earned maximum scores on SC PASS, while thirteen students earned maximum scores on SC Ready. Student athletes were competitive, and a number of programs competed at the state level. Our Arts’ programming remained strong district-wide. Choral, band, drama and orchestra programs have also been competitive at both the region and state levels. With the support of our parents and community, the school system remains excited about the possibilities for students in Rock Hill. The commitment of all involved with our total schools can only lead to a stronger system and truly exemplify “One Team…One Mission…One Rock Hill”.
