Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing an environment where students are challenged to be creative thinkers, innovative problem-solvers, and part of a caring community of learners. Multiple opportunities to engage in these skills are provided both inside and outside of the classroom. Through the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, teachers ensure students are presented grade level standards that will prepare them for future learning. Instructional strategies are varied to meet the unique learning needs of all students. Service projects are conducted throughout the year, giving the students an opportunity to collaborate and develop community values.
Classroom teachers are committed to each child’s education and providing high quality instruction. Common grade level planning time allows teachers to collaborate on creating meaningful lessons that are interrelated. Data team meetings keep the focus on student growth and achievement. Students are provided additional assistance as needed with a variety of interventions. Interventions are scheduled and part of the instructional day which allows all students access. A reading interventionist is provided for kindergarten through fifth grade students that need intensive interventions. Through Title I funds our school is able to provide a science lab instructor for a deeper exploration of science concepts. Kindergarten through fifth grade students put critical thinking skills to work as they collect, analyze, and summarize data through various experiments. Qualifying kindergarten through second grade students are also provided an additional enrichment opportunity through the science lab. Technology is used in all classes to enhance learning and students are taught relevant computer skills.
Partnerships with community organizations allow our students to participate in the Good News Club, The Looney Tunes Bank, Celebration of Character, and Savannah River Ecology Lab activities. Common behavioral expectations are not only taught but reinforced through the use of eagle tickets and positive behavior celebrations. Our school counselor provides whole group lessons designed to address person/social, academic, and career exploration domains. She also meets with small groups of students and individuals.
We are committed to serving our community and encouraging stakeholder support. Opportunities to participate and volunteer are provided through Open House, the Veteran’s Day program, Book Fair, American Education Week, Family Reading Nights, field trips, career day, positive behavior celebrations, various grade level events, volunteering in the classroom, serving on the School Improvement/Title I committee, and our Parent Teacher Organization. School information is communicated through the school website, the marquee, phone calls, conferences, classroom newsletters, automated phone calls, family handbook, the Eagles’ Tales newsletter, and social media updates.
