East North Street Academy of Science and Mathematics is helping all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics included in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by enriching students’ academic opportunities and integrating science and mathematics into all aspects of our school.
Our school houses two state-of- the-art science labs, a Makerspace Lab and a Life Science Lab. The Makerspace Lab provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent using science concepts taught in the classroom. The life science lab houses a variety of animals that are used to instruct students about life cycles and habitats. East North Street Academy also has two outdoor classrooms that enable students to study plants and animals, complete science experiments, and learn gardening methods and techniques. Project-Based Learning and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) activities are infused across all content areas to provide unlimited opportunities for students to learn.
In addition to our academic programs, ENSA provides students access to a wide variety of enrichment activities. Some of these activities include Student Council and Chorus for grades 3-5. Our school also provides character and career education programs through the counseling department. Students in all grades are exposed to different career paths through participation in an annual career day that focuses on the 16 Career Clusters in our Greenville County Schools G Plus initiative.
ENSA meets state and federal expectations through the South Carolina state assessments and standards with highly qualified and competent teachers. Our teachers participate in on going professional development throughout the school year. With a primary and intermediate instructional coach, we are able to meet the individual instructional needs of our teachers and differentiate professional development. Teachers review multiple data points for each of their students to ensure that their individual instructional needs are met.
Our school received an A on the ESEA/Federal Accountability report card and was recognized as a Reward School. We received an absolute rating of Good and a growth rating of Average on the 2014 state report card. We were recognized as a Red Carpet Award Winner from 2010 to 2013. Our Odyssey of the Mind Team has won awards since 2013. We are recognized as both a SAFE Kids award school and a LiveWell Healthy School. Our community support is provided through our PTA and SIC in partnership with our parents, local business partners, and our neighborhood communities. East North Street Academy partner to offer students an after school program throughout the school year which focuses on exposing students to concepts of science and mathematics. Michelin volunteers participate in our summer reading night, Math Clubs, Challenge Reading Program, Girls Loving Science Club, Black History Month Activities, Hands on Greenville, PBIS incentives and awards, as well as providing more than 60 mentors and tutors. Our school also partners with WYNIT, a distributor of technological products that enables ENSA to stay on the cutting edge of new technology. They collaborate with the faculty on how to enhance instruction through the incorporation of technology into the classrooms. Additionally, our school partners with Public Education Partners each year to enhance our reading program. Each of our students receives a minimum of 12 books to start a home library. With these amenities our students are afforded an environment where they can truly thrive and succeed.
It is through the combined efforts of ENSA staff, faculty, parents, PTA and SIC, and our community partners that East North Street Academy achieves its mission as a place “Where Inquiry and Achievement All Add Up.”
