Brook Glenn Elementary, a small inclusive and diverse community school, is helping our pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by working alongside families and community. We encourage both students and adults to be innovative, creative, and problem solvers. At Brook Glenn, we celebrate our differences and diversity through achieving, believing and caring in an inclusive, student-centered learning environment where everyone can learn and become better thinkers and independent learners. We provide a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment, which cultivates and nurtures lifelong learners to excel in an interdependent global society.
Brook Glenn is committed to increasing student achievement for every student who enters our doors. Our plan of action is to decrease the learning gap and increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding target on South Carolina Ready, PASS, and MAP tests; refine our delivery of inclusion, balanced literacy, and math instruction; identify and provide intervention services for struggling learners, incorporate more small groups for remediation, promote character education, model the use of technology to enhance instruction and assessment, and find ways to improve through differentiated professional development. This past year, our students continued to make a year’s or more growth in reading. We attribute this accomplishment to Public Education Partners (PEP), supportive parents, established partnerships with local churches, businesses, colleges/high schools, and social organizations who serve as mentors or tutors, and our professional staff which provides students with numerous and varied academic experiences and interventions to address specific learning needs.
Our staff participates in professional developments that hone each teacher's repertoire of best practices in the classroom. Our teachers focus on collaborating as a true Professional Learning Community in developing both common summative and formative assessments, analyzing data, and increasing rigor in student work and assessments. We deliver data driven instruction with research-based practices, technology integration, and targeted instruction for struggling students. To tackle upcoming assessments, be college and career ready, and acquire digital literacy skills, Brook Glenn students are provided opportunities to use technology to process knowledge, communicate, collaborate, create, write, and conduct research – truly world class skills needed in becoming productive members of the global community.
Brook Glenn promotes a school climate that brings schools, families, and communities together to support students in developing a healthy lifestyle through participation in CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health), Livewell Greenville programs and a wide range of physical activity which includes Mileage Club and Hoops for Health. To enhance leadership and communication skills, and self-esteem, our students participate in an array of activities such as Morning News Show, Safety Patrol, Chorus, Book Buddies, Art Club, Book Club, and Student Council. Parent involvement and community connections continue to improve through planned Guidance Advisory Council, SIC, PTA and school events.
At Brook Glenn, we believe the school, families, and community all share in the responsibility of educating our next generation of students. Together, we can develop students with world class skills and life and career characteristic to be successful in the 21st Century and beyond. We acknowledge our responsibility to help our students connect learning with real life and provide them with the necessary skills to prepare them for success.
