Fort Dorchester High School is helping all students develop the world-class skills found within the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by promoting a safe, caring, positive learning environment. The academic program of studies at Fort Dorchester High School is designed to meet the needs of each student who enters our doors. Our academic offerings include College Prep Courses, Early College Credit, Honors Courses, AP Studies, International Baccalaureate Program, ECPI, CATE, and Credit Recovery. Students are allowed the opportunity to earn transferable college credits and can also earn employment certifications. Fort Dorchester High School prepares all students for college and careers.
Our Early College program provides students the opportunity to earn a two-year Associate of Arts degree while still in high school through our partnership with Trident Technical College. We have 16 graduates in this year’s senior class who earned a total of 960 total college credits. Our Advanced Placement program is growing with 893 tests taken this year compared to the 312 given just three years ago. AP courses give our students more access to a college-focused curriculum. Students and teachers have earned over $125,000 in incentives through the National Math Science Initiative Grant. The IB Programme allows us to bring an international perspective to our course offerings. Students have access to not only IB languages in French, German, and Spanish, but also several levels of mathematics, science, history, English, and art. We have twenty seniors this year who are eligible to earn an IB diploma and 51 students enrolled in the IB program. A focus on learning is implemented through our IB Theory of Knowledge classes, Freshman Seminar, and our advisement program which involves all students. Fort Dorchester High School prepares our college-bound students to excel!
Not only do we offer rigorous opportunities for students to prepare for college, but as a comprehensive high school, we meld our academic, career, and technical courses together to prepare students for future employment and to make learning relevant. Students benefit from opportunities in engineering, biomedical science, robotics, sports medicine, and culinary arts. Fort Dorchester High School offers students an extensive selection in the arts to include: art, photography, 3D art, media arts, piano, chorus, band, theater, dance, and steel drums. The Patriot band and fine arts programs are growing and involving more students each year. Our School is on the cutting edge of outstanding educational practices. Fort Dorchester High School prepares our career-focused students to excel!
We are proud of our students and the way that they represent and serve our school community. Many of our students choose to serve through the IB Community Action and Service project, Beta Club, Interact, Habitat for Humanity, HOSA, and the National Honor Society. Our athletic teams are among the best in the state and compete for state titles yearly. Our JROTC program is expanding and growing future leaders of our Armed Services. The State Air Force Association recognized our program this year as the top Air Force JROTC unit in the State of South Carolina. As a Capturing Kids Hearts and a Renaissance School, we provide multiple school-wide incentives to recognize all students and faculty for demonstrating Patriot PRIDE (perseverance, respect, integrity, dependability and excellence). Fort Dorchester High School is breaking barriers to allow all students to excel!
