Mauldin High School is helping all students develop world-class skills and the life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through a continued focus on achieving excellence in all we do and by intelligent collaboration with our students, staff, parents, and community. In 2017-2018, Mauldin High School once again exhibited excellence and reported high levels of satisfaction with the school and its services as evidenced by faculty, parent, and student survey responses.
Academically, Mauldin High Schools continues to be a district and statewide leader. The school ranked 10th in the state on US News’ ranking on college readiness and has among the district’s highest passing averages on the End-Of-Course Assessments. We also achieved a 92% graduation rate, ranking near the top in Greenville County and among the top 3% in South Carolina. The class of 2018 earned scholarships totaling more than $12.1 million, 42 students received SC Academic Achievement Honors Awards and 46 received Palmetto Scholarships. More than 1180 Advanced Placement exams were administered to 690 students. Our academic program is supported by a robust guidance and career development staff that meets with each student multiple times a year to evaluate academic progress and review college and career plans.
This past year, the Robotics team was named the winner of the Industrial Safety Award in Huntsville, Alabama. Our Teacher Cadets program secured a Memorandum of Agreement with Anderson University to grant dual credit (college credit) to successful students that participate in these career preparation opportunities on the field. This year, we also expanded our Early College program and strengthened our partnership with Greenville Technical College. The expansion involves offering college courses taught by Mauldin HS Faculty starting in 2018-2019. Over 100 students qualified and enrolled to take English 101 and 102 for college credit on our campus, the first in the district for a traditional seven period school.
Service Learning students provided in excess of 5,700 community service hours in a variety of projects. Our Navy JROTC program also committed 2,000+ hours of community service while providing our students the opportunity to gain experience in a military branch. The MHS student body raised more than $85,000 for charity during our annual spirit week activities, proving that the charitable spirit is alive and well at Mauldin High.
In athletics, Mauldin High finished in the top 10 overall in the South Carolina Athletic Directors Cup in 5A and 27 athletes signed letters of intent in a variety of sports at the collegiate level. Performing arts completed an extraordinary year placing a high number of students to region and county band selections. PTSA volunteers donated close to 44,000 hours of their personal time in a variety of tasks including School Store duties, testing, and faculty treats. Mauldin High continued to focus on our Motto: Motivation-Achievement-Values-Success.
