Cyril B. Busbee Elementary/A.L. Corbett Middle Schools, a preK-8th grade school, is located in a rural farming community in Wagener, SC. Our student body consists of approximately 700 students and 110 faculty and staff members. We strive to provide a safe, caring, and academically challenging teaching and learning environment through the implementation of our school’s Purpose and Direction.
- Our Purpose is to become a learning community with a safe environment that fosters engaged learners, involved parents, and dedicated teachers.
- Our Direction is to establish a supportive environment and engage every student in educational experiences in preparation for his/her next grade level.
We demonstrate our Purpose and Direction by providing continuous support and professional development to our teachers, by challenging all students to reach their full potential through the implementation of research-based best practices, and by providing opportunities for parents to support student learning by becoming involved in our school.
Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating a teaching and learning environment that is safe, caring, and academically challenging.
- To assist students in developing World Class Skills, we provide technology activities and project-based learning that promote critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration.
- We are arming our students with World Class Knowledge, to support the development of World Class Skills, by providing opportunities in Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Exploratory courses. These offerings will help our students become college and career ready. World Class Knowledge is also developed through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities.
- Life and Career Characteristics such as integrity, self-direction, and work ethics are developed through character development activities, leadership and mentoring opportunities, and school and community service activities. Development of these characteristics will aid students in the development of World Class Skills.

We believe it is essential that each of our students learn the characteristics/traits they need to develop to be a good person, student, and leader—respect, trustworthiness, kindness, collaboration, and responsibility. These skills will help to ensure our students’ success now and throughout their lives. In an effort to foster this and to help bring out the leader in each of our students, Busbee Corbett began the journey of becoming a Leader in Me School this past year. We are a community of leaders who value relationships, recognize worth and potential and strive for effectiveness in all we do. We commit to modeling and living the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, defining and rising to expectations, and planning and executing with intentionality.
Busbee Corbett believes it is vital to build a positive relationship with our community, businesses, and churches. Programs and activities such as our Veterans Day Program, Black History Program, the Wagener Tree Lighting and Parade, PTO family involvement activities, and Churches Together for Kids help us to build these relationships. Additionally, a number of our teachers received Donors Choose grants that support teaching and learning at Busbee Corbett.
The faculty, staff, parents, and communities of Busbee Corbett, continuously focus on improving instruction to better prepare our students academically, behaviorally, socially, emotionally, and physically. Our Core Values of Commitment, Curriculum, Character, and Community will continue to foster a lion’s spirit of engaged learners, involved parents, and dedicated teachers!
We truly appreciate the support we receive from our community and district as we work to ensure that our students develop the World Class Skills, they will need to become South Carolina high school graduates, and life-long learners!
