Greenbrier Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by supporting the Whole Child and providing an environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged. We are kindness leaders, relationship builders, and successful learners. We are Greenbrier, the school of kindness. Kindness is reflected in all decisions and actions, positive relationships are built among all stakeholders, and as a result, students achieve academic and social/emotional success.
The staff at Greenbrier Elementary is comprised of knowledgeable, caring, and passionate educators, who focus on instructional practices that create optimal learning experiences. The academic curriculum is both meaningful and challenging for all students. The school staff accommodates the diverse skills, interests, and learning needs of our students. With ongoing staff development, which includes strategies for differentiating instruction, the use of common formative assessments, and personalized learning, teachers strive to meet the learning needs of their students.
Greenbrier makes it a high priority to help students form caring relationships. By learning how to actively Take Time to Be Kind (TTTBK), students gain an appreciation for others. With support systems in place such as bullying workshops and cyber safety trainings, students and faculty gain a sense of respect for themselves and others. The emphasis on TTTBK allows Greenbrier students to demonstrate kindness and develop a sense of philanthropy. Students also participate in a variety of service learning projects during the school year and learn about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Student leadership opportunities include Safety Patrol, Morning Show Team, Library Helpers, Chorus, BETA Club, Welcome Leaders and Flag Leaders.
The partnership between Greenbrier and the community is held in high regard. Through gifts of time and donations, our business/community partners enable us to host events throughout the year and have included Summer Family Reading Nights, where students select free books to support their summer reading. Our Backpack Buddy program provides backpacks filled with food for our neediest students to eat on the weekends and during breaks from school. Volunteers assist in the classroom with projects, chaperoning field trips, and reading to students. During Grandparents Day, grandparents enjoy a lunch with their grandchildren. We host an event for veterans on Veteran’s Day. Our community is also supportive of our efforts. This year, our SIC participated in several workshops to learn more about Social Emotional Learning, student leadership, mentoring, internet safety, the profile of the SC Graduate, and College and Career Readiness. The SIC also sponsored Career Day and supports the various Graduation Plus (G+) programs at Greenbrier.
At Greenbrier Elementary, we are honored to work together with our families and community members to develop future South Carolina graduates and world class learners. We look forward to opportunities that lie ahead for our students and our school.
