Old Pointe Elementary strives to help all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing students with a positive, nurturing learning environment where they are challenged to learn and grow each day. The OPES staff has worked hard this year on creating personalized learning experiences for students by encouraging creativity, problem solving, collaboration, and helping students better understand how they learn as individuals. As a school, we continue to pursue on-going growth and improvement, while remaining committed to the development of our professional capacity and family centered climate that have always defined Old Pointe Elementary.
Our school community is proud of the many activities and events that the school hosts to support the overall development of our students. During the 2019-2020 school year, events such as Oktoberfest, Winterfest, and Night of Excellence nurture the development of positive relationships within our school community. Students at Old Pointe are also able to participate in numerous other activities such as Safety Patrol, Chorus, Panther News Network, Girls on the Run team, Terrific Kid, Reading Buddies, and Battle of the Books. Our school is extremely thankful to be able to provide opportunities to students where they are able to demonstrate leadership, creativity, and academic growth outside of the classroom setting.
While focusing on the development of the whole child, Old Pointe continues to show its “Panther P.R.I.D.E.” with the full implementation of its version of a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system, or PBIS. Old Pointe’s unique version of this system is an acronym for the five school-wide expectations: Positive attitude, Responsibility, Initiative, Determination, and Excellence. Our school staff continues to place great value on the social and emotional development of our learners and remains dedicated to supporting students in this area.
Old Pointe was also extremely happy to be able to celebrate many professional achievements over the course of the school year, including: numerous grants awarded to our staff that support classroom instruction, serving as a member of Winthrop University’s Partnership Network and hosting junior faculty members, members of our staff attending and leading many professional development opportunities, and continuing our work with the Office of Personalized Learning Network. These accomplishments only further our staff’s determination to continuously grow as professionals, as we recognize that our own growth will ultimately foster greater instructional effectiveness with our students.
As we move forward, the Old Pointe school community will continue to focus on the whole child by providing each learner with the unique instruction, resources, and support that is needed to help each reach their full potential. We are proud of the many achievements throughout the 2019-2020 school year and look forward to even greater success next year in helping each of our students reach their full potential.
