To meet the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate, Belleview Elementary School is developing world class skills and life and career characteristics for our students by providing each student an opportunity to master the essential learning and life skills that will make him or her successful at all levels. Our Vision Statement- Enriching and Empowering all Learners to be Successful Global Citizens is the focal point of every decision we make for the Belleview School Community. Through our work as a Professional Learning Community, we use formative assessments to tailor our instruction to meet the needs of our students. This allows us to address learning gaps along with enriching and extending others. We provide all students small group guided reading instruction through our implementation of the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessments. These fluid reading groups enable students to move through levels as he or she strengthens in foundational literacy and comprehension skills. The Math Workshop approach has been very successful for us over the past several years. Students work through real life scenarios in small groups using math tools to think through and problem through mathematical reasoning. The collaborative groups provide the students with opportunities to talk through their own thinking, and also hear other ways to problem solve as well. We continue to use the Lucy Calkins series during Writer's Workshop which incorporates mentor text and read alouds to model good writer's craft. Technology continues to be a vital piece of our instruction. Grades three through five are all 1:1 in technology through the use of laptops. Our teachers are constantly improving their use of instructional technology usage which translates to our students’ use of technology.
At Belleview, we serve a high population of students with disabilities in self-contained settings. We look for ways to celebrate all of our unique students, but search for opportunities to educate them about differences and acceptance as well. This was evident during our Parade of Champions held on the same day as Special Olympics. The staff, students, and families cheered for our Special Olympians and giving them a hero’s greeting.
We look for ways to have our families and the community involved in the school environment. Our PTO hosted our annual Fun Run, the fundraiser for the year. Additionally, to help our families support their children at home, we held a Title I Literacy Picnic giving away free books and literacy tips, Title I Math Night at Publix with several fun math scavenger hunt activities and Lunch with Kevin where parents could share their thoughts and ideas on utilizing Title I funds. A final Title I event from the year was Night at the Museum in which our students and families were able to visit the Museum of York County at no cost. Our community was involved during American Education Week and Read Across America Week activities. Members of our community including the Mayor of Rock Hill, Chief of the Rock Hill Police Department, Rock Hill and Charlotte newscasters along with high school athletes came and read to our students and shared about their professions and school experiences. We have partnerships with Salsarita's Fresh Mexican Grill, Texas Roadhouse, First Baptist Church, North Rock Hill Church and others in the community.
Working together with our Belleview families and the Belleview community, we are continuing to enrich the whole child to be a successful global citizen.
