Rosewood Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by offering the only authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP) in the Olde English Consortium area. This area includes York, Chester, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Cherokee and Union counties. The IBPYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. The teachers at Rosewood focus on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom.
Early on students are taught the Leaner Profile which focuses on them demonstrating the following attributes: balanced, caring, communicating, inquiring, knowledgeable, open-minded, principled, reflective, risk-taker and thinker. By choosing to implement the PYP, we are seeking to develop students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values. The PYP nurtures independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning. The program incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum, asking students to look at six related, transdisciplinary themes and to consider the links between them. Students must use each of the world class skills from the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate each year in their IBPYP portfolio and in the culminating Exhibition.
Rosewood is also the only school in our district to offer Mandarin Chinese to our students. This opportunity is a natural invitation to learn more about a different culture that we are not as familiar with. Our school is also recognized as a Title I school in our district, which allows us to further support our students and families in areas of identified academic need.
The students at our school have creatively collaborated this year on an art project that celebrated African American leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr and Barack Obama. Our 5th graders collaborated on their research for the Exhibition showcased at the end of the school year.
We are proud of the many accomplishments our students and teachers made this year and are thankful to our community for their enthusiastic support. Thanks to our wonderful families, Rosewood Kindergarten students will have a new playground when they return to school. Our Science Bowl and Battle of the Books teams participated in the district competition. We continued our reading therapy dog's partnership. This allowed us to bring therapy dogs into our school to enhance reading interventions. As well as partnerships with Winthrop University and Aldersagte Church. Students participated in many cultural and artistic opportunities, performing at Christmasville and Come See Me.
We are thankful to the Rosewood community for supporting our school. Rosewood , a place where we all belong.
