Wade Hampton High School aspires to develop the skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate in our students by providing a safe, caring, and academically rigorous learning environment. With a clearly defined mission to “Educate, Empower, and Inspire” each of our students, we work persistently to implement a personalized learning plan for all students beginning at their current academic level and guiding them to graduation and beyond.
A strong partnership between home, school, and the Greenville community has been the driving force behind the academic achievement of our students over the last decade. Our successes have been recognized by several state and national awards. Our most notable recognitions include the following:
- National Blue Ribbon School (2016) - United States Department of Education
- Palmetto’s Finest School (2011) - South Carolina Department of Education
- Nation's Best High Schools (2019) - US News and World Report
- Recognized ASCA Model Program (2017) - American School Counselor Association
The faculty and staff of Wade Hampton High School are focused on student-centered learning and meeting the needs of our students as individuals. Recognizing that we are stronger together, our teachers operate within the framework of Professional Learning Communities in order to continuously evaluate, plan, and improve student learning. Using both historical and current student achievement data, instructional practices are examined before making decisions regarding the diverse needs of our students. We developed a multi-tiered system of support to provide enrichment activities for advanced learners and ensure that struggling learners receive appropriate assistance. Support systems include teacher office hours, after-school tutoring sessions with free transportation, special education services, and several research-based technology resources. As part of our Graduation + initiative, our students completed over 780 college level courses and an additional 322 industry standard certifications. These accomplishments serve to position our students to compete for college admissions and 21st century jobs. Our intentionality to initiate a strong post-secondary foundation prior to graduation primes the potential of each student for success in their chosen life path in an ever-changing world.
Finally, we believe students are more likely to succeed when they are well rounded and engage in connections outside of the classroom. Relationships matter and are the foundation upon which academic success is built. We have strong extracurricular programs in Athletics, Community Service, Science Technology Arts and Engineering (STEAM), and Performing Arts. Our students lead a variety of clubs and special interests groups that represent the diverse nature of our student body. At Wade Hampton High School we believe the school, family, and community must share the educational responsibility of our children. Success for our students is dependent on the active participation of all our stakeholders.
Thank you all for positioning Wade Hampton as the flagship high school in South Carolina as we continue to develop our future leaders of this state, nation, and world!
