At Jane Edwards Elementary School, we continued to put our students first. We remained committed to developing the World Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by fostering creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. Our priorities centered on ensuring student safety, increasing academic achievement, and promoting continuous improvement.
Supporting the whole child remained a priority throughout the school year. With the support of our full-time school counselor and Communities In Schools site coordinator, teachers implemented the Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum to strengthen students' social and emotional well-being. Our school creed, which reinforced our schoolwide expectations, remained an integral part of our culture. Throughout the year, students who consistently demonstrated positive behavior and exemplified our expectations were recognized as Students of the Month.
Students engaged in personalized learning through the i-Ready adaptive learning platform. We were proud to receive Charleston County School District recognition for i-Ready achievement every month of the school year. Students also established winter and spring i-Ready goals and demonstrated outstanding growth from fall to spring, with many being recognized for their academic progress and perseverance.
Improving literacy remained a top priority as we worked toward Charleston County School District's goal of ensuring every child read on grade level by fifth grade. Literacy intervention services were provided through a certified literacy interventionist, our teacher librarian, and BookNook, a live virtual tutoring platform that delivered engaging, targeted reading instruction. Students and staff also participated in the Beanstack reading challenge, surpassing our schoolwide reading goal. Families supported our literacy efforts by participating in our Holiday Literacy Night, further strengthening the partnership between home and school.
Throughout the year, we implemented Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), which built students' background knowledge while strengthening foundational reading skills. Teachers also received ongoing professional learning and coaching through our partnership with Level Up Literacy, LLC. To strengthen mathematics instruction, we partnered with Beyond the Classroom Educational Services, Inc. and implemented Bridges Number Corner along with Eureka to build students' mathematical thinking and number sense. Teachers provided high-quality, engaging instruction while incorporating Data-Driven Instruction (DDI) practices to monitor student progress, respond to learning needs, and promote continuous improvement.
Weighted Student Funding provided additional opportunities for student success through after-school tutoring in reading and mathematics. These funds also supported a summer literacy program that utilized the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, evidence-based method for teaching reading and spelling to students who benefited from targeted literacy instruction.
Throughout the year, Jane Edwards Elementary School remained committed to ensuring every student thrived academically, socially, and emotionally. We strengthened instructional practices, advanced literacy and mathematics achievement, and fostered a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every child was encouraged to succeed.
