Dutch Fork Elementary School, Academy of Environmental Sciences, helps all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that foster critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Serving approximately 400 students in grades 4K through 5th grade, our school is committed to maximizing the potential of every learner through meaningful, hands-on opportunities that encourage exploration and problem-solving.
At the heart of our school community is the belief that every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and loved. By cultivating strong partnerships among staff, students, families, and community members, we create an environment where student voice, choice, and ideas are celebrated and integrated into daily learning. These collaborative relationships empower students to take ownership of their education while developing the interpersonal and leadership skills needed for future success.
Throughout the school day, students practice and refine world-class skills across all content areas through differentiated instruction that builds on individual strengths and addresses areas for growth. Students communicate their learning through written and oral presentations, student-led conferences, and learning celebrations, providing authentic opportunities to engage with peers, families, and community stakeholders.
As an Academy of Environmental Sciences, we inspire students to view the world through the lens of environmental stewardship, recognizing that every action—no matter how small—can have a meaningful impact. By connecting academic learning with real-world experiences and service to others, our students develop the knowledge, character, and skills necessary to become thoughtful problem-solvers, responsible citizens, and lifelong learners who are prepared to make a positive difference in their community and beyond.
