Throughout the 2019-2020 school year, Lexington Middle School has centered on our commitment to empowering each child to design the future to four areas: Sense of Belonging, Collaborative Culture, Deeper Learning Experiences, and Professional Learning.

Belonging

Lexington Middle strives to ensure every child feels a sense of belonging.  Social and emotional learning is a priority and an advocacy structure was added to our schedule to make time for this important work.

Deeper Learning Experiences

Our instructional priority is providing student-centered classrooms where the burden of learning falls to the students. This allows students to discover knowledge through research and collaboration.

Collaborative Culture

Collaboration is used daily in classrooms to strengthen communication skills and it is built into the schedule with a common planning time for grade levels.  We also believe that collaboration and multiple perspectives strengthen school-level decisions. 

Professional Learning

Weekly professional learning is a major part of our school culture. We pride ourselves on being lifelong learners and believing that we can always improve on our craft. 

The 2019-20 school year ended in a very different way. Ending in a virtual environment was certainly not what we had planned. However, we did not lose focus of our school goals of equity and the student-engagement model. Our initial school data demonstrates slight improvement in our discipline numbers.  We also saw an increase in the effectiveness  of our academic interventions.  Our Athletics and Fine Arts programs continue to thrive and provide unique opportunities for our students.
