Port Royal Elementary School supports all students in developing the world-class skills and life and career characteristics outlined in the South Carolina Profile of the Graduate by providing engaging, standards-based instruction focused on continuous growth and achievement. Our educators deliver differentiated instruction, targeted interventions, and enrichment opportunities designed to meet the diverse needs of every learner. Our mission is to educate, empower, and engage students through cooperation, communication, community involvement, challenging and innovative curriculum, social-emotional development, and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
During the 2025–2026 school year, our instructional focus centered on monitoring student progress toward mastery of South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Teachers utilized formative and summative assessment data to make informed instructional decisions and provide timely support. Through our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), students received individualized interventions and enrichment opportunities that helped them persevere and make meaningful progress toward their academic goals.
Students also participated in engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) experiences designed to strengthen critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. Through project-based learning and the engineering design process in Project Lead the Way units, students tackled real-world challenges and developed innovative solutions while deepening their understanding of STEM concepts.
Our Early Childhood educators continued their commitment to excellence through professional learning in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS), strengthening their understanding of the Science of Reading. Faculty and staff also enhanced their instructional practices through ongoing professional development focused on evidence-based instructional strategies and our district instructional framework, ensuring that teaching practices effectively meet the needs of all learners.
At Port Royal Elementary, we recognize that social-emotional development is just as important as academic achievement in preparing students to become responsible, productive citizens. Through our schoolwide CREW initiatives, we intentionally fostered a positive school culture while emphasizing character development. Students practiced and demonstrated important character traits such as integrity, respect, perseverance, compassion, acceptance, courage, self-control, responsibility, cooperation, forgiveness, and kindness. Outstanding demonstrations of these traits were celebrated during our monthly CREW Rally events.
Family engagement remained a priority throughout the year. We continued to strengthen school-home partnerships by offering meaningful family events centered on literacy, STEM, and student achievement. These opportunities provided families with valuable resources and strategies to support learning while fostering stronger connections between home and school.
As we reflect on another successful year, Port Royal Elementary School remains committed to continuous improvement and educational excellence. We celebrate our accomplishments while looking ahead to new opportunities for growth. Together, we will continue moving forward, becoming stronger each day as we pursue our ultimate destination—excellence.
