Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, creatively stimulating, academically challenging learning environment where all students connect their role in our community with their place in the global society by emphasizing character, education and good citizenship. It is our desire that our students develop the world class skills and career characteristics of the South Carolina graduate by providing a rigorous learning environment that is focused on raising student achievement and closing the achievement gap. Leavelle McCampbell Middle School proudly serves a diverse population of 660 students.
To develop our students' world class knowledge, the teachers at Leavelle McCampbell collaborate to develop rigorous lessons and activities to promote student growth and improvement. In addition to the academics in class, our students are given an opportunity to perform a variety of activities in STEM fields and explore careers with guest speakers during classroom lessons and lunch and learn sessions. Students traveled off campus on field trips to Midland Valley High School, USC-Aiken - Ruth Patrick Science and Education Center, Aiken Career and Technology Center, Aiken Technical College, Aiken County Performing Arts Theatre and Bridgestone – Firestone.
Students continue to develop skills, using computers in classes to conduct research, construct presentations, code computer programs, and extend learning; all meant to meet the needs of our students in a technology driven society. Additionally, students participate in our Spanish curriculum which expands our students’ cultural understanding. Our students are challenged and motivated to be active learners, problem solvers, creative thinkers, and well informed decision makers. All LMMS students have opportunities to participate in advanced and accelerated courses while our seventh and eighth grade students are offered opportunities to earn high school credit in Honors Algebra 1, Honors Geometry, Honors English 1, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and World Language. We also offer opportunities for students to earn high school credit in virtual classrooms with a variety of elective offerings.
We strive to develop a strong work ethic in our students, as well as soft, interpersonal skills that will help them succeed in life. We offer an environment that promotes social, emotional and academic growth as well as citizenship of students in the school and community. Students are offered opportunities to participate in extracurricular clubs, such as Student Council, Beta Club, Future Cities, Math Counts, Academic Team, Band, Chorus, and various athletic teams. Our clubs and organizations have an emphasis on service, both to our school and community. Some of this year’s projects included volunteering at SPCA animal rescue shelter, recycling, creating Easter baskets for area nursing homes, and giving teacher appreciation gifts.
Leavelle McCampbell is fortunate to have a supportive community that is vested in our school. We have an active Alumni Association, and parents are offered opportunities to volunteer for our Parent Teacher Organization and School Improvement Council. Our school has maintained an active partnership with the University of South Carolina at Aiken, partnering with college education majors who serve as mentors, practicum students, and interns.
Leavelle McCampbell Middle School has proudly shown growth in ”meets” and “exceeds expectations” in all areas of SC Ready and SC PASS in 2018. LMMS is committed to working diligently to helping all students develop critical thinking and collaborative skills that will help them as they progress into adults in the South Carolina workforce.
