W.B. Goodwin Elementary School: Growing, Learning, and Excelling Together
At W.B. Goodwin Elementary School, we believe education is about more than academics—it is about developing the whole child. As a neighborhood school, we are committed to creating a supportive, nurturing environment where every scholar is encouraged to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character traits outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, preparing them for success both in school and beyond.
Our mission is grounded in the belief that every child can achieve greatness when surrounded by caring educators, supportive families, and a strong community. We are dedicated to ensuring that every scholar feels valued, respected, challenged, and empowered to succeed. Through meaningful partnerships with families, we work together to create opportunities that help our students thrive.
Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, our efforts have been guided by a strategic 90-day action plan that keeps our focus centered on student achievement and overall school improvement. This living plan allows us to celebrate successes, address areas of need, and make intentional adjustments that support the evolving needs of our scholars and families. By remaining reflective and responsive, we ensure that our work continues to have a positive impact on student outcomes.
Academic excellence remains a top priority at Goodwin. Our instructional focus in English Language Arts and Mathematics is supported by rigorous, engaging lessons designed to challenge students while meeting them where they are. Teachers participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities that strengthen their ability to analyze assessment data, monitor student progress, and provide targeted instruction. Through the use of i-Ready, scholars receive personalized learning experiences that build upon their strengths while addressing individual areas for growth.
We recognize that family engagement is one of the most powerful contributors to student success. For this reason, we are committed to maintaining strong communication and meaningful partnerships with parents and caregivers. Through parent conferences, data notebooks, progress updates, and ongoing conversations, families are kept informed about their child’s academic growth and are encouraged to actively participate in goal setting and decision-making. Assessment tools such as i-Ready (Grades K–5), FastBridge (Grades K–1), and MyIGDIs (Child Development) provide valuable insights that help us tailor instruction to meet each scholar’s unique needs.
Our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework serves as an essential component of our commitment to student success. Through collaborative problem-solving meetings, teachers, interventionists, counselors, and administrators review data, monitor progress, and identify strategies that best support individual students. These discussions go beyond numbers; they focus on understanding each child’s strengths, addressing challenges, and ensuring that every scholar receives the support necessary to succeed.
At Goodwin, we are especially proud of the strong relationships we have built with our families and community. We understand that education is most effective when schools and families work together as partners. Our open-door approach encourages parents and caregivers to remain actively involved in school life, and we value the perspectives, support, and engagement they bring. Together, we create a network of encouragement and accountability that benefits every scholar.
We maintain high expectations because we firmly believe in the limitless potential of every child. Our educators regularly collaborate to monitor academic performance, social-emotional well-being, attendance, and behavior, ensuring that no scholar is overlooked. By maintaining consistent communication with families, celebrating accomplishments, and addressing concerns proactively, we work together to support each child’s continued growth and achievement.
As we continue to grow as a school community, our focus remains clear: to leave every scholar better than when they first arrived. Through collaboration, accountability, innovation, intentional planning, and a shared commitment to excellence, we will continue to create opportunities that empower our students to succeed. The progress we have made and the success we will achieve are a direct result of the collective efforts of our scholars, families, staff, and community partners.
Together, we will continue to build a culture rooted in excellence, opportunity, belonging, and achievement.
At W.B. Goodwin Elementary School, We Can and We Will Excel—Together.
