James Island Elementary School is a neighborhood STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) school committed to cultivating lifelong learners who are equipped with essential 21st-century skills: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Our school proudly provides an educational experience aligned with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, ensuring that students develop the knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, students engaged in rigorous, standards-based instruction delivered through in-person learning experiences designed to promote academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and meaningful engagement. Our instructional practices focused on helping students become innovative thinkers and confident problem-solvers while maintaining high expectations for achievement.
Collaboration remains a cornerstone of our school culture. Educators worked within and across grade levels to design interdisciplinary units and create engaging experiences that connected learning to students’ lives. Family and community partnerships were strengthened through signature events, including our Virtual Family Reading Night, seasonal music performances, Prize Patrol’s “Get Caught Reading” initiative, and Family Math and Science Nights. These opportunities celebrated student success while reinforcing the important connection between school and home.
Our commitment to developing the whole child extends beyond academics to include intentional support for student health and well-being. Social-emotional learning (SEL) was integrated into daily classroom instruction and supported through our guidance program to promote self-awareness, relationship-building, and responsible decision-making. Students also participated in the Kids Heart Challenge, encouraging healthy lifestyles and physical wellness, and had opportunities to engage in school-based basketball, tennis, and wrestling programs that foster teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
James Island Elementary remains dedicated to creating an environment where student growth and achievement are recognized and celebrated. Scholars participated in enrichment opportunities, such as the National Beta Club, and were honored throughout the year at i-Ready celebrations and academic recognition ceremonies, highlighting both individual accomplishments and collective success.
As a STEAM-focused school, we champion creativity, innovation, and inquiry across all content areas. Our approach extends beyond traditional arts integration by emphasizing interdisciplinary and project-based learning experiences. Partnerships and programming, including collaboration with the Baxter-Patrick Public Library, provided students with opportunities to develop foundational coding, computational thinking, and problem-solving skills.
At James Island Elementary, we remain steadfast in our mission to empower every student to thrive in a dynamic and interconnected world through innovative instruction, holistic support, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
