Rosewood students are exposed to world-class skills such as creativity and innovation through arts-integrated curriculum and instruction, Spanish instruction, and the infusion of technology and character education throughout the curriculum. Students in grades 3–5 may participate in gifted and talented programs. Students in need of additional academic support may participate in our after-school program. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are developed at all grade levels through authentic and engaging learning experiences. Active learning in science occurs through inquiry-based instruction. Our engaging extracurricular activities include Library Helpers, Morning News Crew, Safety Patrol, Chorus, Strings, German Club, the Fitness Team, and the Run Hard & Disc Golf Team.
Rosewood Elementary School prepares every student to be a successful, contributing citizen in a global society by providing an effective and high-quality education. Rosewood Elementary is a certified Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) School, funded annually by the South Carolina Arts Commission. This grant provides teacher professional development in integrating the arts into our curriculum to foster creativity and engagement. Another benefit is the multiple opportunities for field studies that give Rosewood students real-world experiences within our community.
Students are exposed to various life and career characteristics through daily learning experiences, community service opportunities, and school-wide behavioral expectations. Our guidance program fosters the development of positive character traits and peaceful conflict-resolution skills. Student interest clubs meet monthly with staff members to develop one-to-one advocacy and build positive relationships in a multi-age learning environment. Rosewood students consistently demonstrate high academic performance. Our teachers follow the state’s standards and use formative assessments and classroom observations to determine learning targets and next steps for instruction. We analyze our student data as a team and develop plans to ensure that all students grow. When students need additional support, we implement a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) led by our reading interventionist. We believe that early intervention is the key to long-term learning success.
Our programs support skill-building by incorporating the latest technology and providing one-to-one student devices. All classrooms are equipped with a SMART Board, teacher laptop, and document camera. The ability for students to access their online learning programs at home provides a differentiated approach and extends their personalized learning.
Our school is fortunate to have many parents, local businesses, neighborhood associations, and community members who volunteer and participate in school community activities such as International Walk/Bike to School Day, Science Night, Arts Night & Spring Picnic, Rosewood Readers, and Math Mentors. Our parents’ engagement and community support continue to enhance the school climate, promote student achievement, and contribute to our success.
