Webber Elementary School is dedicated to developing students with world-class skills and the essential characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We focus on achieving high academic standards, fostering emotional connections to society, and encouraging students to understand their role within a larger community. As a Corwin Visible Learning+ Certified School, Webber implements research-based Visible Learning strategies to ensure high-impact teaching and maximize student achievement.
Our staff development activities are designed to nurture critical thinking in all students. Through our partnership with Corwin’s Visible Learning program, teachers engage in professional learning centered on high-impact instructional strategies, clarity of learning intentions, and the use of feedback to move learning forward. Implementing our weekly Planning+ schedule allows teachers to participate in extended professional development that aligns with Visible Learning practices. Emphasis is placed on accountable talk, essential questions, quick writes, formative assessments, and reflection. Teachers dissect academic standards, reflect on instruction, ensure standards-based teaching, analyze data, monitor progress, and design weekly assessments to measure mastery of skills required for state assessments. Weekly grade-level planning, STAR testing, i-Ready testing, and quarterly district benchmark assessments enhance students' test-taking skills and prepare them for SC READY.
We support academic achievement in reading across all subjects, guided by programs such as Wonders, Amira Learning, and Freckle, along with daily classroom interventions to close gaps in content mastery. Title I funds help provide academic assistance to at-risk students through the services of two instructional assistants. Special activities, including extended-school-day programs, ensure continued academic growth and student achievement. Digital devices are integrated into kindergarten through fifth-grade learning, enabling research projects, group presentations, and collaborative learning.
Webber fosters a culturally responsive and supportive environment by addressing traumatic triggers and implementing proactive strategies to maintain a positive learning environment. Each day begins with personal greetings to ensure students feel valued and parents appreciate the strong staff-student interactions. Our school-wide PBIS initiative includes monthly PBIS conclaves that highlight character development and recognize exemplary behavior. Faculty and staff are also acknowledged for their teamwork and attendance through PBIS Rewards, including treat bags, gift cards, and early leave passes. Special recognitions throughout the year show our appreciation for the staff's dedication to student success. Quarterly awards ceremonies celebrate student academic achievements.
Parent outreach programs, supported by community partners, include Math Night, Literacy Night, and the Eagle Festival. Parents are involved in decision-making through monthly School Improvement Council (SIC) meetings and parent luncheons. They can also provide feedback through conferences with administrators, a suggestion box in the main office, and student agendas. Lunch Buddies and mentors from Sylvamo and the Eastover community inspire students by sharing their life experiences during biweekly visits.
Webber is committed to its mission of leading and learning by promoting critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Through the implementation of Visible Learning strategies and a continuous focus on high-impact instruction, our initiatives ensure that all students develop the world-class skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
