Chester Middle School is committed to ensuring that all students develop the World-Class Skills, Knowledge, and Life and Career Characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Through a safe, supportive, and academically rigorous environment, we prepare students for success in high school, college, careers, and life. Guided by our school theme, "Rooted in Purpose, Rising in Power," the 2025–2026 school year was marked by academic achievement, student growth, leadership development, and meaningful community partnerships.
One of our most notable accomplishments was being the only middle school in the district to have students named Junior Scholars. These outstanding students were recognized for their academic excellence and participated in Junior Scholars Day at Winthrop University, where they were celebrated alongside high-achieving students from across South Carolina. Their achievement reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and our commitment to academic excellence.
Chester Middle School also celebrated significant academic accomplishments through advanced learning opportunities and STEM initiatives. Several students participated in the prestigious GoSciTech Summer Residential Camp Scholarship Program, providing them with hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Additionally, many students successfully participated in the STARTS Program, further expanding their academic and leadership experiences in the ARTS beyond the traditional classroom setting. We are grateful for the partnerships and opportunities that continue to expose our students to rigorous, future-focused learning experiences.
We are especially proud to recognize student achievement at the highest levels. Chester Middle School student Deacon Moss received a letter of congratulations from the Office of South Carolina State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver after earning a perfect score on the 2025 SC READY Mathematics Assessment, an exceptional accomplishment that reflects both academic excellence and dedication to learning.
Academically, Chester Middle School strengthened student achievement through daily FLEX intervention and enrichment periods, targeted instruction informed by NWEA MAP Growth data, and collaborative Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Teachers regularly analyzed data, adjusted instruction, and implemented intervention strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners while maintaining high expectations and rigorous instruction.
Student leadership and engagement flourished through organizations such as Beta Club, Student Council, Principal's Cabinet, Academic Challenge, and FLEX Clubs, which provided opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, explore interests, and build meaningful relationships. Career exploration opportunities expanded through guest speakers, community partnerships, and experiences such as the Be Pro Be Proud mobile workshop, exposing students to skilled trades and future career pathways.
The Fine Arts Department continued to excel. The Chester Middle School Band earned an Excellent Rating at the Carowinds Music Festival, while the Chorus earned First Place in its division, the prestigious Esprit de Corps Award, and induction into the Festival Hall of Fame. Additionally, the school successfully launched its Drama Club production, which received tremendous support from families and the community.
Athletics remained a source of pride as student-athletes demonstrated perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship through football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, and cheerleading programs.
Students were celebrated throughout the year for academic achievement, attendance, growth, leadership, and citizenship. The GITI STEAM Club earned district recognition as the 2nd Place Middle School Winner, while students excelled in academic competitions, fine arts performances, and service-learning projects.
Chester Middle School also remained committed to supporting the whole child through PBIS initiatives, restorative practices, mentoring programs, social-emotional supports, Town Hall meetings, and wellness initiatives. Community partnerships with Mentoring Matters, Men United, The Beacon Foundation, local businesses, faith-based organizations, and volunteers provided valuable mentorship, resources, and opportunities for students.
Family engagement continued to be a priority through School Improvement Council meetings, family nights, parent conferences, transition events, and school-wide celebrations. Students also participated in enriching educational experiences, including visits to museums, competitions, nursing homes, NASCAR events, and other learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
Professional learning remained a major focus throughout the year. Teachers and school leaders participated in district and state professional development opportunities focused on literacy, mathematics, instructional leadership, data analysis, and student engagement. Through instructional coaching, classroom observations, PLC collaboration, and ongoing feedback cycles, educators continuously refined instructional practices to improve student outcomes.
As we reflect on the 2025–2026 school year, we are proud of the accomplishments of our students, staff, families, and community partners. Chester Middle School remains steadfast in its commitment to continuous improvement, academic excellence, and developing future-ready learners. Together, we will continue Rising in Power as we ensure every student learns well today to live well tomorrow.
